  1. I look forward to the presentation, particularly your interpretation of what cloud computing actually is and the evolving technology.

It may also be interesting to address why it's called "cloud computing" - the internet in pictorial representations is always depicted as a cloud, so that's a possibly interesting parallel.

    See you Tueseday!

  3. I was actually waiting for the presentation on cloud computing. But I got slightly muddled (about what exactly is cloud computing) after the presentation...

Here are some of the links which I think will help us in better understanding of cloud computing...

Short description of what cloud computing is and few application:

And Sumantra Sarkar was talking about SETI.I found it to be interesting..HEre are some details about SETI.The program specifically is called as SETI@Home.The followng link provides you with few article that explains how SETI@Home uses cloud computing.. http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/

    Hope this helps you.

Its a great presentation. You could handle it very well and explain about cloud computing though it was confusing.Thank you.

  5. Sangeetha, I would like you to comment on Dr. Zheng's comments that some definitions of cloud computing are too general. I am also confused about where you draw the line between the cloud and the internet itself.

I am ready to say that any computing done over the internet is cloud computing, which may be accurate! Is checking my yahoo! mail cloud computing? is looking at espn.com cloud computing? maybe, because all of the work and the servers are being done on the back end, which means my desktop here isn't doing anything but stupidly pulling up a webpage.

Where do you draw the line? I don't know!

  7. Michael, Regarding the point about checking email on Yahoo is that considered cloud computing - Let us say..you start a small firm with around 10 employees or ..and it is a virtual company. All employees keep in touch via emails. For you to set up email service for your employees..you would have to buy some email software licenses, servers to store emails etc..But to avoid the cost associated you ask every one to use Yahoo email service. Essentially you are using a service provided by Yahoo and you do not have to deal with any associated infrastructure/License cost. Hence Yahoo's email service can be considered as SaaS aspect of cloud computing. Hope this helps..
